Susana Molina
I chose this career path because
While I earned my MBA and began my career as an accountant, I have always had an eye for design and a passion for creating beautiful things. I was born in Mexico and in 1994, Mexico was in an economic crisis. It was then that my former husband and I made the decision to emigrate to the United States. In 1996, I pursued my love for design and started Mexports Inc., a high-end furniture manufacturing company. I integrated various Mexican elements copper, stone and iron, to create unique furniture that was a combination of US and Mexican elements. All of the merchandise offered by Mexports By SM are hand-crafted with slight variations in the size, color and appearance.
I prepared for this career by
My mother was a tailor and designed her own clothing, so designing and creating really is in my blood - I guess you could say it just came naturally for me. Other than that, I have an MBA from Instituto de Especialización para Ejecutivos and a BA in Accounting and Finance from Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas.
The biggest challenge I've overcome
My biggest challenge came after my divorce in 2009. It was then that I had to learn to run the company all by myself.
My greatest strength(s)
My greatest strength is designing; I have eye for putting the elements together.
My greatest accomplishment to date
I feel like my greatest accomplishment was when I was in the Las Vegas market and had a showroom on the first floor.
My personal/professional goals
My goal is to serve the entire United States and become well-known to all interior designers. This year things are looking great, much better than last year. In order to keep my brand fresh, I am coming out with new designs in March and April, a new 2018 Catalog and a Newsletter. I am also using Pay-Per-Click marketing and Houzz.
What/Who has inspired me the most
I guess what inspires me is the fact that I do not have kids and I have made this business my baby. It motivates me and inspires me to nurture it.
I most want to be known/remembered for
I want to be remembered as that Crazy Designer from Mexico. To be remembered as someone with a different vision - the Carolina Herrera of Furniture.
