Patricia Faust, MGS
About me
I am a gerontologist specializing in brain aging, brain health, brain function and dementia. Everything starts and ends with the brain. I speak, I teach and I train people about the benefits of brain healthy lifestyle, your brain at work, and slowing the effects of brain aging. Our brain doesn't know how old we are - our lifestyle dictates how fast our brain ages.
About my company
I chose this career path because
This is my second career. My first was as a clinical medical technologist. I worked in hospital and private laboratories. As a certified clinical orthotist I called on nursing homes where I worked with patients suffering from dementia. I was disturbed by what I saw, so I decided to go back to school to study gerontology and make a difference in how the behaviors of dementia are addressed. As part of my portfolio of services - I speak and consult on Aromatherapy and the Behaviors of Dementia. (I am also a certified clinical aromatherapist). I was the Aging in Place Director for an Area Agency on Aging in SE Indiana. I educated community leaders about the impact of the the demographic shift to an aging society.
With pcf consulting - I embrace all of the advances in the knowledge of brain function. I concentrate on Brain Aging issues - normal changes - dementia changes. I educate on brain health. My library of presentations include everthing from Your Brain on Aging and Health to Neuroscience and Marketing. I have written a number of courses - The Healthy Brain for Life Program; Financial Professionals:Aging Clients; The Retirement Brain Program.
I can't even imagine an more fulfilling career than what I have right now.
I prepared for this career by
I received my B.A. in Gerontology from the University of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, OH and went on to receive my Masters in Gerontological Studies at Miami University in Oxford OH. Additionally, I have a Nursing Home Administrators License in Ohio (now inactive). I have certifications in Clinical Aromatherapy, Brain Health Coaching, Neuroscience and Wellness.
The biggest challenge I've overcome
The biggest challenge I have is communicating the impact of the aging society and all of the ramifications that it entails. We are now an aging society and there will be no demographic shift to a younger society in the foreseeable future.
My greatest strength(s)
My greatest strength is perseverance. I have been on cutting edge thought for awhile now. The 'aha' moments for those who aren't visionaries can be few and far between. I have learned resilience and patience throughout this journey.
My greatest accomplishment to date
I went back to graduate school at 50 years old. I excelled and knowing what I know now about the brain - I consider this my greatest accomplishment. I use my experience to encourage other women to believe in themselves - which catapults my accomplishment to higher realms.
My personal/professional goals
My goal is to write a book, do more speaking engagements in a bigger arena and I would like to be financially successful.
What/Who has inspired me the most
I am inspired by the love I have for what I do. I love older people and am inspired to advocate for them.
I have friends and mentors through the Scripps Gerontology Center. Dr. Suzanne Kunkel and Dr. Bob Applebaum were doing research, writing policy and solidifying the field of Gerontology before anyone really knew there was a field of study.
I most want to be known/remembered for
I most want to be remembered for being a great wife, mother and grandmother. I have the same passion for my family as I do for my work.
