I have been in education for 40 years, My career began in the public school system as a Special Education teacher. Later I became an Adjunct Instructor at several colleges and in 1991 I became the first full-time faculty member at Urban College of Boston. Eventually, I became that division Chair and now I am Vice President for Academic Affairs. 

Since I was a small child I knew I wanted to teach. My grandmother was a teacher and I always found myself teaching others. It was the perfect career choice for me as a mother of two children because it afforded me the opportunity to work on the same schedule as them and spend quality time with them.

I have a B.S. in Education from Boston State College and an M.S. in Special Education from Lesley University.

My biggest challenge was raising my two children on my own while working and receiving a formal education.

My strengths include the compassion I feel for others and understanding the difficulty adult women have of realizing they have a pathway they can take to succeed despite age and circumstance. I possess a great sense of humor and emotional intelligence.

My greatest accomplishment so far has been seeing that my children are educated and self-sufficient and seeing thousands of students that I have taught prosper. Also obtaining this position and being one of the founding faculty members and creating the Early Childhood Education Program.

I want to stay at Urban College a little longer and then retire to teaching, maybe writing. I am taking care of my daughter who is ill with ovarian cancer and my husband who suffers from early Alzheimer's Disease, so they are my top priority.

What inspires me most is the successes I see at graduation. I am the one who does graduation and the students take a Capstone Course called My Journey. Their journals are amazing. When I see our adult female students walk across the stage with their children and grandchildren, it truly inspires me.

I want to be remembered for empowering others, especially women.
