Back in college, my plan was to become a veterinarian. It was during a summer internship at a veterinarian's office that I found out I was allergic to the cleaning and chemicals agents used to clean the examining rooms and cages. That, combined with the fact that I realized I couldn't bear to look at the injured animals, lead to my ultimate change in career goals.

I always enjoyed math and worked well with numbers, so I started to explore my options. I took an Accounting course in college and I loved it - the rest is history! I earned my Bachelor's degree in Accounting and went on to become a CPA so I could open my own firm.

I first received an Associate's degree in General Studies from Pierce College and an Associated degree in Accounting from Ramsey Community College. After working for a few firms and realizing I was doing all of the work, but not getting the credit or making the money,  I went back to school and earned my Bachelor's degree in Accounting from California State University, Northridge. Shortly after earning my Bachelor's, I became a CPA.

My partner at my firm is a male, and I find that when I first meet with new people they often direct their questions to him, assuming that as a man he will know the answers. That said, as a woman in this industry I find that I sometimes have to work harder to prove myself.

I have great attention-to-detail and concern for all aspects of my client's business. I can find the right balance between over-paying and not paying enough on their taxes.

My greatest accomplishments to date include getting my CPA designation and becoming a managing partner in my own firm.

My goal is to continue to grow this firm and to hire an assistant within the year. Toward that end, I have started focusing more on advertising and marketing efforts and I am working with a website development company to build a new site. I have also become more active on social media and increased my networking efforts. 

What inspires me is achieving that work-life balance. I am currently working with two CPA firms and I haven't attained that yet, but I am inspired by the thought of having time to do volunteer work, give back to the community and pursue other personal interests of mine.

I most want to be remembered for caring for and helping others.
