Maggie is the Leading Global authority on career development for women in male dominated industries. She is the author of the upcoming book, Up the Ladder in a Skirt, which is hailed as the book for women in challenging roles globally by business leaders, movers and shakers.  

A mechanical engineer who climbed to the top of the leadership ladder, Maggie was the executive chairman of a large agricultural company, responsible for the 75% increase in the retention of staff through career development pathways, by the age of 32. Maggie is a sought after consultant in oil and gas, agriculture, manufacturing and automotive industries. Having achieved goals such as being the youngest member of the plastics pioneers education initiative which went into companies such as Monsanto and Nylex.

She has directly impacted the career choices and progress of over 10,000 women in over 32 countries around the world.

Mental health is still misunderstood.  As something that cannot be seen we are often intimidated by the very words “mental health”, yet of themselves they are something we all have.  It is when we add ‘ill’ between them or ‘illness’ or ‘disorder’ afterwards that we are stepping away from what is healthy into the realms of what may not be.

As someone who has lead teams in companies around the globe and experienced the impact that mental ‘ill’ health can have in the workplace and on the business bottom line, as an observer and as someone who has a mental health ‘disorder’, Maggie works to de-stigmatise Mental Health in our workplaces.

After working in the corporate world and climbing the corporate ladder, I wanted to do something different and went into semi-retirement. I decided I wanted to help other women, and I established leadership programs geared toward career development for women and traveled the world while doing so!

The skills I acquired throughout the course of my corporate career, helped prepare me for what came next. I turned a hobby into a business and really took things to another level. I also had great mentors and collaborative partners along the way.

My biggest challenge is being in a country that is not mine and being out of my network. It can be a challenge to get acclimated with a different culture that has different business practices. 

Among my greatest strengths are my communication skills and my open mindedness. I am able to look at things, identity problems, and articulate solutions.

My fascination with diversity, training, and leadership development also serves me well in business!

My professional goal is to bring my business to a multi-national level and to help stigmatize mental health as something common in the workplace. 

I am inspired by watching other people grow, knowing that I played an important role in their journey.

I am an ambassador for the Hunger Project UK's Unleashed Woman Project, which empowers women to lead their communities out of poverty.

I also support a charity local to my community which is the John White Little Star Foundation, which was started by a now 14 year old boy who aims to support and empower children with disabilities in the East End of Glasgow (which is one of the most disadvantaged areas in Scotland, not just Glasgow).

I enjoy reading and running - I recently ran a triathlon!
