Lori Wuerch, LPN, CFCN
About me
As a licensed practical nurse in a healthcare setting, Lori Wuerch
came to see that overloaded nurses simply couldn’t attend to the
foot care that so many elderly patients desperately needed and,
when it was given, it was done without special training or tools.
In 2001, she set about changing this by launching Foot Care For
Seniors, a mobile service dedicated to providing quality foot care to
the elderly. Today, she and her staff of nine deliver personal,
specialized service to more than 1,800 clients in Winnipeg and
Brandon in settings ranging from personal care homes to independent living centres, hospitals
and personal residences.
The mobile nature of the services means the stress of travel to appointments is eliminated for
clients. Foot Care staff carry product bags from which clients are able to purchase supplies they
cannot get out to buy themselves. Foot Care staff develop relationships with clients, ensuring
each session goes beyond the basics to include compassion, conversation and a relaxing foot
massage. Referrals are made to podiatrists when the care required is beyond the scope of the
Foot Care nurse.
