Keshia Keith, PhD, LPC, NCC
About me
I am a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina and a proud alumnus of the University Of South Carolina (USC), home of the Gamecocks. There is a special place in my heart for USC, as it was the place where I met the man who would become my husband. I had no idea what this chanced meeting would bring, but we have been blessed for over 17 years to understand what transitions, deployments and field training exercises are all about. Military life has shaped me and I’m taking these experiences forward into private practice, where I will continue to work with clients in transition. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) possessing a doctorate in counseling studies, providing counseling services to individuals, couples and families. I am also the author of The Classroom Of My Life, which details my personal struggles and triumph over postpartum depression. For more information please visit www.drkeshiakeith.com. My family and I currently reside in Oklahoma.
About my company
Life Interrupted Counseling Services, PLLC is an agency in its infancy. The focus is on honest healthy healing. We welcome clients who are struggling with depression to allow us to support them in their healing process. We provide individual, couples and group counseling services. In addition to counseling services, training and workshops are conducted to bridge the gap between the mental health population, social service agencies and law enforcement.
I chose this career path because
I have been in the counseling profession for 14 years. Initially, I was inspired to become a corporate attorney when I went to college. I took some courses in social work and psychology. While attending those courses, I listened to a professor talk about how she helped people overcome obstacles in their life. I thought to myself, do I want to make money or make a difference? I decided to make a difference.
I prepared for this career by
I have a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Tarleton State University and a Ph.D. in Counseling Studies from Capella University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma and I am a National Certified Counselor.
The biggest challenge I've overcome
My biggest challenge has been continuing to break the barriers related to the stigma that still exists regarding depression, specifically, postpartum depression. Although the conversation continues, many women still hide their pain. I would like to see more women stand strong in their truth.
My greatest strength(s)
I have the ability to engage people and do more listening than speaking. I have the ability to see into the heart of an individual despite what they are feeling at the time and help them see their potential and possibilities.
My greatest accomplishment to date
My greatest accomplishment is being a mother to two wonderful children and being a military spouse for over 17 years.
My personal/professional goals
This year I have worked to solidify my company name. The ownership is new and we are in transition mode, so my goal is to move more toward business ownership and away from solely providing counseling services.
My long term vision is to impact society one person at a time. I want to change some perspectives and have agencies engage more in mental health training, by training them to understand the mental health customer and client. This will allow them to be more supportive. Regarding that, I am doing research and surveying organizations to find out what is lacking in their understanding of mental health.
