I come from a family of teachers and I thought I would never become one! I was the caretaker for my siblings and did not like kids very much. I started working with children, and then spent time in Mexico teaching kindergartners English and fell in love with it. Teaching was a surprise career for me. 

I received my Masters' Degree in Bilingual Education and have a Post Graduate Reading Endorsement. I am ESL and K-12 Certified. 

Coming from an outspoken family, it was a challenge to learn when to be outspoken and when not to be. I learned quickly that it was acceptable for a man to be outspoken but no so much for a woman. 

I genuinely like people and teaching. I am also very creative!

In the 1980s I was proud to be part of the first exchange program with India when I was working with a not-for-profit group. This was unheard of and caught national and international attention.

At this point I am not sure if I will be teaching in the fall. I am going to see where it is that my heart stops shopping. I have retired once before.  There is a the State Gubernatorial Election this year and I'd like to get behind David Garcia and help with his campaign. I am planning to travel to Mexico and continue as a literacy volunteer. I am also enrolled in a digital photography class and have a trip to Ireland planned!

It was definitely my Aunt, who I consider a second mother, who inspired me most. She would always have to time to listen to my problems without judgement.  My religious education as a Catholic has also always inspired me to help and care for the poor. And finally, being mildly dyslexic, I am passionate about helping people with learning disabilities. 

I want to be remembered for being someone who passed on her skills to others in an effort to better their lives. I would like to be remembered as someone who left her students, family and friends with a positive experience.
