Karen Wootton
I chose this career path because
I have been in some form of marketing and advertising for over 25 years. Throughout the course of my career, I have managed photography studios, graphic arts departments, handled numerous fortune 500 accounts. I have extensive experience in strategic marketing strategies and am also a certified graphic designer. I have worked at a number of agencies with many large, high-profile clients. I started my own business because I wanted to bring the benefits of many years of experience in marketing and advertising, to the small and midsize businesses in an affordable manner. I am very passionate about helping people realize their dreams by helping them to build their businesses.
I prepared for this career by
Most of my preparation has been on-the-job and learned through experience - I am grateful to have worked with so many talented and gifted people who have shared their knowledge and experience with me along the way. I attended Seneca College to become a Certified Graphic Designer.
The biggest challenge I've overcome
As far as challenges, let's say that early on, I was the only woman in the boardroom with 15 men. In the 80's I was young, petite and looked like I was 18 years old. I had to work much harder to prove I had the right to hold those positions back then and worked twice as hard to earn my stripes.
My greatest strength(s)
I have a wide breadth of knowledge in the industry, I am objective, and I have a grounded view of marketing. I am able to demystify digital marketing for clients and have the ability to integrate with my client's businesses.
My greatest accomplishment to date
My greatest accomplishment is my son whom I adopted from South Central Siberia, Russia. The fact that I have been a very active single mother for over 10 years, have developed my business and am a homeowner are great accomplishments as well.
My personal/professional goals
This year I have seen slow and steady growth in my business and have done many free consultations for non-profits. My long-term vision is to help more businesses become successful and have a positive impact on the community where I live.
What/Who has inspired me the most
When working with a small to midsize company you see their passion and drive and their desire to improve the quality of life for their family. I am inspired to provide them with the necessary tools to make them a success.
I most want to be known/remembered for
I want to be remembered for sharing what I know and paying it forward to help businesses thrive and for impacting the quality of life for their families and the community.
I participate in the following organizations/memberships
- Whitchurch-Stouffville Chamber of Commerce
I support the missions of these charities/volunteer my time
