Jennifer Dubow, LISW
About me
I provide mental health counseling to individuals of all ages, families and couples in a private practice setting.I have been a therapist since 1985 and have worked with people struggling with various issues such as anxiety, depression, anger management, divorce, grief, stress, relationship conflict, ADHD, etc. Often people will ask me what I specialize in and really the only specialty I have that is unique is that I know sign language and can provide therapy for people with hearing impairments.
About my company
My private practice is located in a beautiful setting. The view from my office is of trees and a pond. My office is a little larger than most therapists in order to provide yoga therapy. I added Yoga Therapy to my practice because I believe it's effective in providing alternatives for mood regulation, reduced anxiety, increased concentration and self-confidence. There are 7 other therapists in the practice. One of the therapists has a therapy dog who works along side her in the office. We have a beautiful setting to even do yoga outside in front of the pond.
I chose this career path because
At some point in high school I realized I wanted to help people and become a social worker. I was drawn to the field. After practicing within a group, I soon realized that I wanted to own my own practice. As a creative person it suited me best! I created a board game called Stress Quest, and I have recently added a mind-body component to my therapeutic services by introducing a yoga therapy for children. I think it's important to include some form of physical activity in helping a person to be well.
I prepared for this career by
I received my MSW degree from the University of Michigan and my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from George Williams College. Additionally, I am a certified children's yoga therapist.
The biggest challenge I've overcome
The biggest challenge I've had to overcome is to get over the fear of owning my own business and pursuing some of my creative interests.I had wanted to be in private practice for years and was really fearful to make that jump. I guess I was waiting to have the confidence to do so and I found out that it was in doing so that builds confidence.
My greatest strength(s)
I am creative, laid back yet driven. I have a lot of energy and I am always doing something to keep myself busy. And, while I'm keeping myself busy, I always seem to stumble upon a new inspiration or a new creative idea.
My greatest accomplishment to date
My greatest accomplishments, without a doubt, are my two awesome sons who have grown to be wonderful, kind men. They were such a great source of encouragement and support as I trademarked my game, Stress Quest, self published my book and even contributed to my garden designs!
My personal/professional goals
My goal is to continue to expand my practice and yoga therapy, and to encourage other therapists to incorporate yoga into their practices. I am also working on developing more games!
