I chose this career path because
My career started while I was a student doing my Master's at Hodges University and I was offered a job. I worked in the business office and I got to work with students. As Chief Diversity Officer which is a new role for me , I focus on being a change agent and strategist, making sure staff and students focus on diversity to feel empowered to bring their whole selves to learn and grow. I love learning and I have a passion for it.
I prepared for this career by
I received a MBA in Business Administration and Management and a BA in Business Administration from Hodges University. I am a Certified Diversity Executive, Certified Emotional Intelligence Coach and Certified Diversity Professional. I also had on the job training and attended seminars and conferences.
The biggest challenge I've overcome
My biggest challenge is not focusing on the challenges and just try to overcome them and help women achieve their goals.
My greatest strength(s)
My greatest strength is perseverance, educating myself, caring, working with teams that like to be a part of change. I am a change agent and we should be the CEO of our lives.
My greatest accomplishment to date
My greatest accomplishment is my grandchildren and my 3 sons' which I raised them alone. I was the first in my family to receive a Master's while working full-time and raising a family.
My personal/professional goals
My professional goal is to continue in my role and help other women achieve, work together and have a true sisterhood.
What/Who has inspired me the most
I am inspired by my love of people, believing in diversity and having great mentors. I feel very fortunate that I have the opportunity to make a difference.
I most want to be known/remembered for
I want to be remembered as a good and honest friend, a good mother, being kind, compassionate and caring.
I participate in the following organizations/memberships
I am a Board Member of the House of Gala, WGCU Diversity Advisory Committee, Women's Foundation of South West Florida and Darlene and Friends Board. I am the Founder and Chair of Florida M.O.V.E Conference.
I support the missions of these charities/volunteer my time
I support the American Cancer Society and the Harry Chapin Food Bank.
I enjoy the following hobbies/interests
I enjoy music, socializing with friends, working as a mentor to females and males and just being a people advocate.
