Felicia Geller
I chose this career path because
I went to the University of California, Berkeley and studied Political Reporting. I really hadn't considered a career in fashion as serious career move until I got a call from BCBG looking for someone to work in their marketing department - the rest is history!
I have been in fashion about 23 years, my first position having been in marketing for BCBG. I have since worked in both the TV and publishing arenas as well. I absolutely love what I do! It is ever changing, unpredictable and challenging.
I prepared for this career by
My preparation has been a combination of both education and experience. As far as my formal education, I received my Bachelor's in Political Science and Rhetoric from the University of Berkeley, and while it's not the path I ultimately ended up pursuing, I do I feel that my degree gives me a different, and important, perspective in both marketing and understanding markets. As far as experience, I have actually been doing some form of business since I was 11 years old, and I've learned a lot along the way.
The biggest challenge I've overcome
The biggest challenge has been achieving that balance that particularly women have to worry about. I have 3 boys and balancing my career with raising my family, and making sure I give both aspects my attention, has always been a juggling act. I actually took 3 years off to raise my babies and worked as a consultant at one point because it afforded me the flexibility my life demanded at the time. As my boys have grown older, I am now back to working full-time and can focus more of my attention toward my professional development.
My greatest strength(s)
My greatest strengths include my ability to effectively communicate and my interest in continuing to grow and learn. I have given up my ego to serve my brand. I am also very enthusiastic which is important in the world of fashion.
My greatest accomplishment to date
Professionally speaking, I am most proud of the ground work that I helped lay for Shoshanna. I was there at the beginning with the founder of that company and just read they are celebrating their 25th Anniversary.
My personal/professional goals
A lot has changed for me this year, as I have come back to work full-time and I am traveling more for business. I am building a new brand with a new team and new brand director. I am excited to be involved in this new chapter and my goal is to learn as much as I can and develop my skills in areas such as digital marketing, SEO, etc. It is essential to learn and grow in marketing, because everything in it is constantly changing and there is always more to learn.
What/Who has inspired me the most
I have had the opportunity to travel and interact with different people from different cultures and from all walks of life, and I am inspired by diversity and change. Creating new relationships also inspires me and the ability to help people with their wardrobe choices.
I most want to be known/remembered for
Professionally, I want to be remembered as being passionate, open-minded to new ideas, and for always going to extra mile to help others. Personally, I want my legacy to be my 3 wonderful boys and for the generation after theirs.
I support the missions of these charities/volunteer my time
I love to box and dance!
