Being a nurse was a calling for me.  I began my career on the Medical-Surgery Unit and realized that so many patients had psychiatric conditions and no one knew how to take care of them. So I pursued a specialty in psychiatric nursing. 

I received my PhD in Philosophy from the University of Texas in  Galveston, my Masters in Nursing Degree in Psychiatry from the University of Texas in Houston and my Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing and teaching from the University of Texas in Galveston. 

Being a female in medicine where administrators and physicians are predominantly male. Even the female nurses deferred to their male colleagues for their expertise. As a Nurse Practiioner, most times consulted with the male physicians when I had the expertise in the area. 

I am assertive and analytical - never present a problem with a solution for it, and I love to research. I gather the data and am a formidable advocate for the patient. 

I would have to say it is my doctorate for Psychiatric Nurse Practioner. 

I am putting together a book to publish that will include all of the data I have gathered through my research. 

My mom. She was illiterate and a proponent for taking care of your health and getting an education. I saw her struggle and she pushed us to go to school, do our homework and work hard. It was painful to watch her struggle but she always pushed to study and do our homework. She insisted we read books and do our homework first!

Being ethical and always standing up for righteousness.  Remember me as holding the baton and standing up for the underdog, doing things legally, ethically . As a woman who loved her family.
