Donna Weifert, RN
I chose this career path because
We owned an Auto Parts business, and I hated it. The business and working with the clientelle did not fulfill my passion to help people. I knew that I could be dong more to help people, other than serving our customers, I decided I wanted to go to nursing school ,so I did. I enjoyed a 26 year career, most of them at Kaiser.
I prepared for this career by
I completed my Associates Degree in Nursing and obtained my nursing license, which even though I am retired I still maintain.
The biggest challenge I've overcome
Trying to get everything done, and to be all things to all people was exhausting!
My greatest strength(s)
My greatest strength is the ability to make the family a priority - taking care of the family and the dog - and balancing a demanding career. I am compassionate and passionate about helping people and when there's something I want to do, I do it. I am a life long learner who truly enjoys educating people about a healthy lifestyle and bringing people together to connect.
My greatest accomplishment to date
I am so proud of how quickly I rose among the ranks in nursing to an RN3. I learned a lot very quickly, and worked in nearly every unit of the hospital, some of my rotations were intense and demanding. I enjoyed it all. In retirement I am proud to say that I founded to retirement groups for nurses who worked at Kaiser, and both groups are growing.
On a personal note, I am extremely proud of my two daughters and my niece who I had the pleasure of raising. All three of these women are amazing human beings and I feel that they have benefited by having me in their lives.
My personal/professional goals
Retirment for me is great, there are no more alarm clocks and no rush to hurry and get everything done. That said, I want to do more. As a vegan, I believe in plant based nutrition, and have been studying under a few experts. I have already started to share my knowledge with the community, and hope to bring this to more people after I get a degree in nutrition so that I can begin coaching and teaching in the community.
What/Who has inspired me the most
I am inspired by my three kids, and energized by people in the reitrement and nutrition groups.
I most want to be known/remembered for
A good woman who was a good mother, daughter and member of the community.
I participate in the following organizations/memberships
- Founding member of 2 Kaiser Retirment groups for nurses
- Belong to several Vegan groups
I enjoy the following hobbies/interests
Of course I love spending time with my family. I also enjoy photography, tap dance, travelling ,the theater and dining out.
