I chose this career path because
I chose this career path after gaining a solid background in writing and communications with a degree in journalism, professional training as an interviewer, and experience in Human Resources and Recruiting. While living overseas and in Washington DC, I focused on military transition resumes and federal government resumes and career management. I want to help empower clients with the tools they need to succeed in the job market.
I prepared for this career by
I received a BS in Journalism from California State Polytechnic University and nine industry-specific credentials:
Certified

Professional Résumé Writer (CPRW)
Employment Interview Professional (CEIP)
Career Management Coach (CCMC)
Federal Job Search Trainer & Counselor (FJST)
Credentialed Career Master (CCM)

The biggest challenge I've overcome
My biggest challenge is educating and exposing job seekers to the fact that career coaches are available to them to help them make career decisions, develop career management plans and succession plans, and guide them through the job search process. I call it “Job search-proofing.”
My greatest strength(s)
My greatest strengths are training including train-the-trainer, speaking, writing, and career management coaching. I am also adept with providing training for military transitions, and federal government resumes and applications. My strengths equate to my clients’ successes.
My greatest accomplishment to date
My greatest accomplishment to date is creating and directing the Certified Career Coach Program (CPCC), which is sponsored by the Professional Association of Resume Writers & Career Coaches. This is a global program with nearly 1,000 participants. I designed the program, wrote the materials taped the video segments, and facilitate the program day to day. I enjoy hearing the triumphs of my CPCC participants and they apply what they have learned to their career coaching practices!
My personal/professional goals
My personal and professional goals include continuing to grow the Certified Professional Career Coach program, finishing my books, and continuing to travel and train.
What/Who has inspired me the most
Over the years, I have hired four different mentors/coaches. I took to heart the concept of “being coached” to succeed in business and attain my goals. I am grateful to my mentors, each of whom taught me different aspects of the business and career coaching. I am also inspired by my clients and the participants in my Certified Professional Career Coach program; it is lovely and motivating to hear their success stories!
I most want to be known/remembered for
I want to be remembered as the person who coached clients to develop positive and effective career management and succession plans; as the leader of the Certified Professional Career Coach program; and as an inspiration to all types of job seekers (military, Wounded Warriors, military spouses, university graduates, professionals, and executives).
