Amy Ockert
I chose this career path because
I have been in the food and consumer goods industry for 10 years. My career began with Pete's Coffee, where I was exposed to a lot of cross-collaboration in business processes, mainly on the vendor side, and grew that business significantly during my time there. 7 years ago, I decided to try my hand on retail side of the industry and accepted a position with Whole Foods. Today, I am the Sales and Competitive Strategy Director of Whole Foods. I passionate about what I do and what the company in general stands for - quality.
I prepared for this career by
I earned my B.A. Communications and Critical Thinking at the University of California, San Diego. Upon graduation I dabbled with .coms, but got out fairly quickly after they bombed, and took a job with Sara Lee. I went on to become certified in MS Office and Category Management
The biggest challenge I've overcome
My biggest challenge has been the work/life balance. I tend to take my ideas home with me and work on them. Now I have the Northern California Territory and it has created a little more balance.
My greatest strength(s)
I am skilled at getting the "buy-in" and presenting to large groups. I am able to build a story that is specific to the needs of the listener. I am a cross-functional performer and great at seeing and understanding the full picture and identifying who needs to be involved in a project to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
My greatest accomplishment to date
During my time at Pete's Coffee I played a significant role in the growth of the business that I am very proud of. In fact, with the help of a few others on the East Coast, we doubled our business.
My personal/professional goals
Right now, my immediate goal is to navigate our merger with Amazon. I want to continually learn and grow and in a few years perhaps become an entrepreneur.
What/Who has inspired me the most
I have a natural curiosity that has served me well throughout my career. I am inspired to use my voice and passionate about creating the best consumer experience.
I most want to be known/remembered for
I want to be remembered as a mentor who had the ability to help people learn and grow, see things differently and overcome obstacles and challenges.
