Wendy Fisher - DELEGATE
Since becoming a freelance research consultant, Wendy has worked with research Directors and Managers to support the formation and delivery of their strategic agendas. Wendy has been involved in reviewing research offices’ processes so that they can meet their metrics and deliver a streamlined service, and has also provided extensive interim management support for Research Networks and Research offices. Working with the National Health Research Authority, Wendy is at the forefront of the changes to the way research will be managed. Wendy’s career stems from a nursing background via undertaking her own research in print disability, managing EU research grants and facilitating research at SE London Strategic Health Authority. Providing people with support and advice through training and consultancy is the main driver of Wendy Fisher Consulting Ltd.
About my company
Wendy Fisher Consulting Limited has been providing R&D offices with support and training since 2007. During that time we have taken a very pragmatic approach to issues that often cause managers concern, such as the provision of a swift and streamlined service for researchers, embedding research into an organisation, and the implementation of numerous changes in how research is managed.
I chose this career path because
I chose this career path because I enjoyed research and statistics and had held managerial roles in my previous nursing career. I had always wanted to run my own company from since I was very young and when the opportunity arose I grasped it and have never looked back.
I prepared for this career by
I have a background in nursing and management and later in life undertook a BSc in Psychology and an MSC in Research Methods/Statistics at the University of Hertfordshire. I also learn a lot from observing people and what makes some people successful.
The biggest challenge I've overcome
My biggest challenge has been bringing together groups of people who don't naturally work together to join forces on national projects to enable large scale change.
My greatest strength(s)
My greatest strength is bringing together national groups to try to help people with complex situations.
My greatest accomplishment to date
My greatest accomplishment is working on a national process for streamlining research approvals.
My personal/professional goals
My professional goal is that I am setting up a new company, Research Applicators Ltd to help researchers through the application process for research in the NHS.
What/Who has inspired me the most
I am inspired by the people I work with. Developing an amount of change that will be able to be implemented, develop them, instill comfort in people and help people manage their issues successfully.
I most want to be known/remembered for
Making a change and improving peoples situations.
