Rochelle Odesser - DELEGATE, CFP
About my company
I chose this career path because
This was not my first career, I came into it in a roundabout way. I graduated with my BA in History from CCNY and then four years later received my Master's degree in Education. My husband and I moved to Chicago, where he went to Law School. When we moved back to New York, teaching jobs were few and far between and I knew I had to find a different career path. I began working in a small printing company and I did sales and customer service. I moved onto to learn about the financial services business and studied to obtain the necessary licenses and certifications. I quickly found the perfect place to use all of my training in the financial services field. I get to help people manage their benefits and educate them as well. I found my passion.
I prepared for this career by
In addition to my Masters and undergraduate degree, I received my certification as a CFP and I hold several licenses.
The biggest challenge I've overcome
Since I am in the top 10th percentile of producers, I have earned my seat at the table. That said, many people still look to a man for their expertise, and they are chosen on that basis. I may have something more beneficial to say but my voice isn't always heard because of this.
My greatest strength(s)
I am a great communicator and listener. This enables me to interpret what is unsaid and reflect back on what they are saying. I am a collaborator and am empathetic. I am driven to help people and watch them realize their financial goals.
My greatest accomplishment to date
My family is my greatest accomplishment. My three children are my greatest source of pride. I have two sons and a daughter and they are all accomplished, productive and kind adults.
My personal/professional goals
I am seeing many of my friends retiring; that is not something that I see for myself. I am a lifelong learner and I am driven to continue to grow and learn. I am not ready to step back yet, I still have more to accomplish and more people to help and teach! I am planning to do more work with the New State Court Employees, and I am planning lunchtime seminars.
It bothers mewhen I se e people who follow the financial path that other people do, without assessing their own needs - just "following" the group. Everyone's situation is unique and so are their financial needs.
What/Who has inspired me the most
I have been inspired by people who have overcome adversity. Someone like Helen Keller, she was the first blind and deaf person to earn a Bachelor of Arts. This is one of her sayings:
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.Life is either a great adventure or nothing.
I most want to be known/remembered for
I want to be remembered as being thoughtful, respectful and strong and for being a woman who acted on her beliefs.
I participate in the following organizations/memberships

I have received the following Honors/Awards/Scholarships
I support the missions of these charities/volunteer my time
